How is the Latin Community Influencing the PR World?

It’s no secret that there is a rising population of Latinos in the United States that is changing and influencing the nation. We have begun to see this with the rise of famous Latino artists, such as Bad Bunny, Becky G, Camila Cabello, and the list goes on. These musicians are charting on Billboard’s Hot 100 every time they release new music and they have been nominated for numerous awards. More recently, Puerto Rican artist Bad Bunny received media attention for his nomination for artist of the year at the American Music Awards. Many were surprised by this because a Latino artist who makes music in mostly Spanish is being nominated for the most important category with only American artists.

Not only do Latinos influence music, but they influence American sports as well. The Dodgers, for example, have multiple Latino baseball players on their roster and a large percentage of their fans are Latinos. As a result of this, the Dodgers celebrate Hispanic heritage month by hosting days to honor certain countries. This past year they hosted Mexican Heritage Day and a few days later, they hosted Salvadoran Heritage Day. For these events, they have food that represents that heritage and special edition jerseys that honor those Hispanic countries.

Public relations played a huge role in those events because they were specifically organized to get more people to have a good experience and visit the Dodger stadium. It certainly worked because they had most of their Latino Dodger fans talking and posting about these events all over social media. This was a brilliant way to be inclusive of the different heritages that their fans come from. As a result, these fans feel honored and will likely want to come to support their local baseball team.

Due to the rising influence of Latinos in America, the public relations world is changing rapidly. PR Week released an article in which Hispanic PR professionals claim they will have an influence on whatever comes next. Companies and businesses are actively seeking out Latinos to get their insight so that they can attract that growing population.
